Libya PM to hold government meeting in Benghazi
Posted – 19th April 2021
The Prime Minister of Libya, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, is going to visit the eastern city of Benghazi and hold a government meeting there in the presence of all ministers, a spokesman has revealed.
Muhammad Hammouda did not say when the visit will take place, but it will be the first such meeting in the city, which has been under the control of renegade Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.
The spokesman for the Libyan National Unity Government said that Dbeibeh will also visit other Libyan cities as part of the government’s work programme. It is a natural and necessary step to view the conditions around the country, he explained.
“Any minister who cannot move and go to different Libyan regions is basically not welcome to the government,” the prime minister was quoted as saying.
The parties to the Libyan conflict have reached an agreement under UN auspices which stipulates that the new executive authority will manage Libya’s affairs temporarily until presidential and parliamentary elections are held on 24 December.
